Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re still on the fence, here are some questions we hear often that may help to address your concerns.
You can also book a free 15-minute phone call with Tracy to address any questions you have directly with her.
You don’t have to choose between those 2 sides of the spectrum for your method. It’s not about a right or wrong method, but about what works best for your family. You can teach a child to self-settle either in a separate sleep space or in the family bed, and there are different methods to achieve this.
The “cry it out” and other extinction methods may seem to yield fast results but require consistent and prolonged follow-through with crying and a lack of responsiveness, which many parents find difficult due to concerns about emotional harm to the child or their own gut feelings that their child needs a responsive method.
Tracy prefers gentler methods, often considers the family’s timeline and opts for approaches that minimize tears and meets the baby’s adaptability. She avoids strict extinction methods and adopts a balanced approach: make the changes necessary but respond and support the child through the change to help them adapt.
Tracy’s methods are good for families who:
· Oppose letting their babies cry it out.
· Have tried the Ferber Method without success
· Have tied Cry it out but it has stopped working.
· Used “cry it out” previously but find it no longer effective.
· Believe in co-sleeping but find their child isn’t sleeping well even in the family bed.
· Co-slept reactively for a while and now want to transition back to having the marital bed.
Specific sleep coaching or sleep training methods that Tracy considers in her individualized sleep plans include:
· Loved to Sleep
· Kinder Method
· Kinder Method Light
· Gradual Retreat/Sleep Lady Shuffle
· Camping Out
· Constant Presence
· Creative Problem Solving
· Bedtime Fading
· Gentle Night Weaning
· Attachment Diet

Tracy has been in the sleep business since 2011.
Tracy works to improve sleep using gentle and effective strategies that are very supportive and responsive to the child. Cry-it-out is not a go-to program.

No, no one can truly guarantee a “no crying” approach. For instance, if you’ve accustomed your child to falling asleep while being held for all naps, bedtime, and wake-ups, and then decide to change this routine, your child will likely protest or resist the change. They won’t understand why you’ve altered your approach, and if they are pre-verbal, crying will be their natural response.
At Quiet Nights, Tracy aims to minimize crying as much as possible. She encourages parents to be loving and responsive while allowing the child to learn the crucial life skill of self-soothing and self settling. With Tracy’s coaching, parents stay with their child and offer physical and verbal reassurance without putting the child to sleep themselves, encouraging a secure attachment.
Tracy works with you to develop a customized, step-by-step sleep plan that considers your parenting style, your child’s age, health, temperament, the mother’s well-being, and family dynamics.
